Trinity Hall invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of WYNG Research Associate in Data Protection and Common Law Systems for a fixed-term contract of 12 month, on a full-time basis. The appointment will take effect from Michaelmas Term 2026 (1 October 2026), subject to successful candidate availability. Applications are invited from scholars with an interest and proven expertise in data protection law and policy.

The WYNG Research Associate will support the delivery of research and related activity on data protection and common law systems, directed and led by Professor David Erdos. The role focuses on advancing an innovative examination of data protection frameworks within common law jurisdictions.

The postholder will undertake research (of a comparative, historical, doctrinal and practical nature) into long-standing data protection regimes within common law jurisdictions (especially Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand), compare these with other (principally civil law) jurisdictions and explore the strengths and limitations of approaches within common law jurisdictions in a globally interconnected data environment. The Research Associate will support the production of key research outputs and academic dissemination and activities including those of the Cambridge Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL) which is part of the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge.
