Summary

Relying on 'critical' methodological approaches to labour law, my research seeks to trace and compare the processes by which trade unions have come to sustain the economic, legal, and political (including ideological) conditions necessary for the reproduction of capitalist social relations in France and the UK. The aim of my research is to ascertain how differences between these processes, and their resulting effects, affect the radical potential of trade unions to transcend the very social relations they may be playing a role in sustaining.
