Biography: Ana is a Copyright Counsel at Google and a Guest Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of Leiden University, with policy and legal expertise in the field of intellectual property (IP) and European law. She holds a PhD in Copyright and European Law from the University of Amsterdam, a Research Master in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Lisbon, an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Competition Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center, and a 5-year advanced LL.B. from the University of Lisbon.
Abstract: 3D printing now allows people with a visual impairment to experience reproductions of paintings, photographs and drawings through touch. However, it is not clear whether existing disability exceptions in copyright law cover this type of use, which might generate concerns about legal risk, chill sensory art projects and, overall, reduce inclusivity. This seminar will focus on the EU landscape of disability exceptions, and will discuss the broader conclusions and recommendations advanced in a recent book that the presenter co-edited.
