The Centre is delighted to welcome Krzysztof Garstka who took up the position of Information Governance Research Associate in February 2017. He joined Dr David Erdos on the Human Rights, Big Data & Technology (HRBDT) project.

Krzysztof's research interests lie primarily in the field of information technology law, with particular interest in online content regulation within the fields of intellectual property and data protection. He is fascinated by the myriad legal challenges brought about by novel, online technologies

Krzysztof completed his PhD at the University of Nottingham, his LLM at the University of Edinburgh and his LLB at the University of York. Immediately before coming to Cambridge, he worked as a Senior Researcher at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich. His work has been published in internationally renowned journals, such as the International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law (IIC) and the European Journal of Law and Technology (EJLT), and he spoke at multiple conferences around Europe.

His current research within the HRBDT project is primarily focused on two inquiries. The first one explores the potential for globalization of the so-called ʻright to be forgottenʼ, by looking at the data protection instruments functioning at the transnational level and in select jurisdictions especially within the G20. The second centres on an analysis of the role of EU data protection instruments in the regulation of surveillance technologies.
